John Lennon (Singer):

During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said:’God, that’s for you.’
He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner.

The man who built the Titanic
After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be.

Marilyn Monroe (Actress)
She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show.
He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.
After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:  ‘I don’t need your Jesus’.
A week later, she was found dead in her apartment

Bon Scott (Singer)
The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang:
‘Don’t stop me; I’m going down all the way, down the highway to hell’.
On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit.

Campinas (IN 2005)
In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend…..
The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the car:
‘My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You.’
She responded: ‘Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, Cause Inside Here…..It’s Already Full ‘
Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact.
The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken

Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist and entertainer) said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written.
In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor vehicle.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no other name that was given so much authority as the name of Jesus.

Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he is still alive.

First of all, I can’t imagine that this was written by a Christian, that a disciple of Jesus would represent our loving God as such a vengeful deity (allthough I can, unfortunately, imagine that it is being forwarded by Christians.)

Even in the Old Testament, when God decides to punish His people, it is done with sadness, in love. (Hosea 11:8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim! How can I hand you over, O Israel! How can I make you like Admah! How can I treat you like Zeboiim! My heart recoils within me, my compassion grows warm and tender.)

In the New Testament we get to know God as a God of second chances, of much grace and love.

Paul, who persecuted Jesus’ followers – and, by implication, Jesus Himself (Acts 9:5  And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting;) – was forgiven, saved and called.  He became the greatest missionary of all times.

Peter, who denied Jesus three times (Luke 22), became the rock on whom Jesus built His church (Matt 18:18).

And what about Jesus Himself?  Jesus was mocked, beaten, tortured, crucified.  His reaction to this humiliation?  “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

Jesus said things like:

Matt 5:11  “Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.”
Matt 5:38  “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39  But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek,turn to him the other also; 40  and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; 41 and if any one forces
you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Matt 5:44  But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

As Christians, we have no reason to expect that the world won’t say anything bad about us or our God:

1 Cor 4:12   When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;
1 Tess 3:3  We did not want any of you to lose heart at the troubles you were going through, but to realize that we must expect such things.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” God loves everybody – even those who blaspheme against them (which makes their blasphemy so sad).

The problem, of course, is that these kind of e-mails aren’t just innocent.  It is not going to convince anyone to serve – much less love – God.  In fact, it is going to repulse unbelievers away from God.  Worst of all is that it is a false representation of God!  In a way, one can understand when unbelievers blaspheme, since they do not know God.  I think it is a much greater blasphemy when His own children spread lies about their loving Father.

This is not to mention the superstition inherent in chainmail.  Superstition is per definition unbelief.  God cannot be manipulated, not even with “8 in 8″ formulas.  Miracles are God’s to give as He pleases, not ours to force via e-mail.

Soveel nuwe CD’s

Ek was ‘n fan van Sarah McLachlan voordat ek die storie gehoor het.  Sarah McLachlan het die powers that be genader om ‘n musiekfees met vroulike musikante te hou.  Die powers weier egter om selfs twee vroulike musikante in ‘n ry te laat speel en beweer dat niemand na net vroulike musikante sal kom luister nie.  So word die Lilith Fair gebore en die res is musiekfees geskiedenis.  Te laat probeer die powers deel word van die grootste musiekfees van daardie era.

(Ons weet natuurlik dat Lilith Adam se eerste vrou was, geskape voor Eva.  Aangesien sy egter wou bo wees, is sy uit die paradys verban en word sy ‘n demoon wat wiegiedood veroorsaak.  Laat dit nou ‘n les wees vir alle vroue.)

Wat maak ‘n mens as jy drie wonderlike nuwe CD’s het?  Na watter een luister jy?

Herwin Herwinner Herwinste

Op 4 Junie 2006 het ek hartroerend vertel van die worsteling om Swede te verlaat.  Die hoop dat ek dalk, eendag, nie meer sal wil terugkeer Swede toe nie, het liederlik beskaam.

NetJane het my weer herinner aan een van die magdom wonders wat deel is van die daaglikse lewe in Swede (en vir my ‘n foto gestuur).

By die supermarkte is daar hierdie wonderlike goed.  (Die een waarmee ons gewerk het, was nie so fancy soos die een op die foto nie, maar ons het in die slums gewoon.)  Jy neem alle leë bottels en leë blikkies en gooi dit in die masjien in.  Soos NetJane ook genoem het, maak dit ‘n heerlik bevredigende meganiese geluid wanneer jy die voorwerpe in die masjien gooi.  Wanneer jy klaar is, druk jy ‘n knoppie en siedaar, jy kry ‘n koopbewys vir die supermark.  Of jy kan kies om die geld vir ‘n welsynsorganisasie te skenk.

Briljant.  Wonderlik. Fenomenaal.

Droomhuis

Ek het die naweek ‘n foto van my droomhuis geneem:

As ek nie bg huis kan kry nie, sal die een ook werk:

Terwyl ek so op Nature’s Valley rondgeloop en huise beloer het, het ek gewonder of dit beter is om ‘n houthuis of ‘n baksteenhuis te bou? Vir bakstene word grond uit die aarde gegrawe en vir houthuise word bome afgekap. Die bome is egter vir daardie rede geplant, so dis moontlik volhoubaar. Tog moet houthuise jaarliks chemies behandel word. I don’t know.

Naak is mooi

Almal kan iets sê

Ons almal hou tog daarvan om ons opinie te lug (lig?).  Veral sekere onderwerpe lok baie reaksie uit.

Hoor die dominees gesels!  Lees hoe ‘n dominee vertel van sy ouma se moord.

En hoe ‘n ander dominee reageer.

Dan kan jy sommer saam met hulle gesels, want dis goed as dominees luister ook.

En dán kan jy ‘n gereelde deelnemer aan seepkis se gesprekke raak.  (Jy kan daar ook lees hoe ‘n ander dominee vertel van haar belewenis van xenofobia.)

Die donker kant van groen

Johan lig in sy kommentaar die probleem met ekologiese verantwoordelikheid vir ons uit.  Elke poging om groen te wees, het ook maar ‘n negatiewe kant.  Neem bv. die mode om organiese kos te eet.  Dis alles goed en wel, maar baie van die organiese kos in SA word ingevoer – dit los ‘n massiewe carbon footprint.  Biofuels is kontroversieël en mense vra of dit regtig volhoubaar is.

Dan is daar ook die kwesse van energie-besparende ligte.  Wonderlike idee.  Behalwe, die goed is vol kwik!  Jy kan nie kwik sommer net weggooi nie!  Dis kwik, magtag! Ek weet vir ‘n feit dat my plaaslike stadsraad besluit het om niks daaraan te doen nie, want dit gaan eers oor omtrent 10 jaar werklik ‘n krisis wees.

Drie hoera’s dan vir die redders van die aarde, Woolworths, wat spesiale houers het waarin ‘n mens hierdie ligte kan weggooi.  Ongelukkig het ek dit nog nooit gesien nie, maar hulle sê dit is so.

As dit so is, of eendag so word:  gebruik dit!

Wat gaan jy intussen met jou nie-herlaaibare batterye maak?  Vir wat gebruik jy nie-herlaaibare batterye?!  Die goed is ewe giftig en kan nie by gewone asgate weggegooi word nie (nie dat dit enigiemand keer nie).

Ode aan alle werklik magtige mans

Aangesien niemand kan sê wat hulle doen om die aarde te beskerm nie, sal ek ‘n paar voorstelle maak.

Wat van groen skoonheid? Maak seker dat jou toiletware en kosmetiese produkte “groen” is (nie van kleur nie, stupit, van oorsprong). Koop “The Green Beauty Guide“. Of kry die inligting sommer gratis op hul website.

Of maak soos ek, wees ‘n sucker vir bleeding-heart liberal bemarking en spandeer elke maand die helfte van jou salaris by The Body Shop. Woolworths se erg fancy takke verkoop ook groen kosmetiese produkte.

Gelykenis

Een dag hoor Oom Leeu ‘n vreeslike geskreeu. By nadere ondersoek ontdek hy dat Olifantjie in ‘n groot gat geval het. Oom Leeu sê: “Moenie paniekerig raak nie, Olifantjie. Ek gaan haal gou my BMW [of Hummer of ander oordadige voertuig] dan sleep ek jou uit.”

Oom Leeu gaan haal sy BMW en sleep ‘n dankbare Olifantjie uit die sloot uit.

‘n Week later loop Olifantjie rustig in die bos, toe hy ‘n vreeslike gebrul hoor. By nadere ondersoek ontdek hy dat Oom Leeu in die sloot geval het! Olifantjie sê: “Moenie bekommerd wees nie, Oom Leeu, ek laat sak gou my slurpie dan trek ek jou uit die sloot uit.”

Olifantjie laat sak sy slurpie en trek vir Oom Leeu uit die sloot uit.

Moral of the story? As jy ‘n lang slurpie het, het jy nie ‘n BMW [of Hummer of ander oordadige voertuig] nodig nie.

Vandag is Wêreld Omgewingsdag. Wat doen jy om die aarde te beskerm?

Hierdie kar verteenwoordig vir my alles wat verkeerd is met die wêreld: oordaad, selfsug, ‘n waardesisteem wat alles gryp en gemaklik oor ander jaag in die oortuiging dat dit jou toekom.

Stars of the Moscow Ballet

Ek was onder die indruk dat ek gereeld (so gereeld as wat mens kan as jy in ons stad woon) dansproduksies bywoon. O.a. ballet.  Sal ek toe besef, terwyl ek na die “Stars of the Moscow Ballet” kyk, dat ek nog nooit gewone, klassieke ballet gesien het nie.  Turns out Maeree gaan kyk altyd moderne, eksperimentele produksies.  Ek het die hele tyd verwag dat die meisies gaan wawiele doen en dat die dansers mekaar oor die vloer gaan sleep.  In sekere kringe sal dit my beslis as ploert kwalifiseer.
